Getting to School

Harpenden Academy School Travel Plan

Ppt Parent Coffee Morning Feb 2023 Travel Plan

Walking, Scooting and Cycling

We actively encourage our pupils and staff to journey to school and home in alternative ways, whenever possible, rather than using the car. We have a cycle park at the front of the school and have a large cycle and scooter park that is in a secured area that children have access to during the start and the end of the day. These are, however not covered. Please ask at the Office if you need access to these.

Public Transport

We are at the heart of Harpenden with easy access from both bus and train travel. We are just 5 minutes away from both bus stops and the train station. The 321 and 657 bus are popular services that stop on the A1081, which is then a short walk to the school's location. The 321 service runs at least every 20 minutes during the school day, between Luton and Watford via Harpenden and St Albans. The 657 service runs hourly during the school day, between Redbourn, Harpenden, Wheathampstead and St Albans. There are further services run by Interlink bus services.

Harpenden Railway Station is a 5 minute walk from school with frequent trains run by Govia Thameslink between Bedford and London, before travelling further afield.

The A1081 travels through the centre of Harpenden. It starts at Luton Airport in Bedfordshire and runs to High Barnet in Greater London via Harpenden, St Albans and London Colney.

Car Parking

We are unable to provide parking for staff or visitors (staff members have the opportunity of buying into a parking permit). There is limited parking on Victoria Street. The nearest car parking facilities are on Bowers Way and in the local Sainsbury's car park. Both of these car parks require payment. As there is limited parking, Harpenden Academy strongly suggests that you park further away and then walk the rest of the way. This will encourage less traffic in the area.

Zebra Crossing

We have a zebra crossing a few metres away from the school and so, as a school, we recommend that parents and children use this to provide a safe place to cross. At present we do not have any crossing patrol.
