Our admissions process is based on three key principles:
HA has a very distinctive ethos, which is different to other local schools. We want to encourage applications from parents and children who believe in this ethos.
We want to create a diverse intake, which reflects the overall demographics of the Harpenden area. We therefore offer an extended catchment area to prevent the ‘doughnut effect’, which sees property prices rising around popular schools, making places unaffordable for many families. To buck this trend, we allocate a proportion of places to children eligible for Pupil Premium funding and do not base our admissions policy solely on geographical proximity to the school.
HA places a strong emphasis on local community engagement and is also a green school. We therefore draw around half of our pupils from within a reasonable (see note 1 below) walking or cycling distance from the school.
Reception 2018 Allocation
Applications for Reception places September 2018 need to be submitted by mid January 2018 and should be done online. Go to http://www.hertsdirect.org/admissions for further information on how to do this. You can change your application at any time up to the closing date. You will be prompted to complete a supplementary information form (SIF). You only need to complete this if you wish to be considered under the pupil premium criteria. If this is the case please complete the SIF and return to Jo@harpendenacademy.org
From September 2011 all primary schools must offer children a full-time place at the start of the September term. However, legally children do not have to be in full-time education until the term after their 5th birthday. Delaying your child’s entry into school is called ‘deferred entry’. You can request this, but your child must start before the end of the school year during which they turn 5. The expectation is all those starting in September will attend full days but if you are a parent of a summer born child and have concerns over full school days please talk to us.
In year admissions -2017
As a developing school, HA does have vacancies in various year groups for this academic year. Parents who would like to make a visit are asked to telephone Kathryn Jackson our Admissions Officer to make an appointment to meet the Headteacher and to see the school in action.
Pupil numbers per class are determined by the Board of Governors as the Admitting Authority.
International parents, planning to move to Harpenden during the year are welcome to arrange a Face Time or Skype interview with the Headteacher via Kathryn, our Admissions Officer.
Please see our Admissions Policy for details about how places are allocated
