Physical Education

At HA physical education is taught twice a week, once by a sports specialist and once by a class teacher, making cross curricular links with topics where possible, for example dance linked to Celebrations topic.

The new National Curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives

PE units are planned by both teachers, using the Enfield scheme of work, and by our sports specialist to ensure a progressive build up of skills across the school and a broad and rich range of topics.
For more detail on PE topics taught, please see our Year Group Curriculum maps.

Community Links
At HA we take children into their community or invite members of the community into school in order to bring their learning alive and allow experts to be involved in their learning. In PE, we have sports specialists in each week to share their expertise with the staff and children. KS2 children are taking part in a local triathlon. An Arsenal footballer also visited us to inspire the children and their love of football and sport.

Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning plays a vital role in all areas of our curriculum. In PE, the outdoors is used for PE sessions whenever the weather and equipment requirements permit.
