At HA languages have be introduced to Year 3, 4 and 5 and will be taught weekly in KS2 from September 2015.

The new National Curriculum for geography aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
  • speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
  • can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
  • discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.

From September 2015, languages units will be planned using a scheme of work currently under development to ensure a progressive build up of skills across the school and a broad and rich range of topics.
For more detail on languages topics taught, please see our KS2 Year Group Curriculum maps from September 2015 onwards.

Community Links
At HA we take children into their community or invite members of the community into school in order to bring their learning alive and allow experts to be involved in their learning. In languages the children currently have the option of French and Spanish clubs (lunchtime and after school).

Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning plays a vital role in all areas of our curriculum. In languages, the outdoors may be used to teach new vocabulary (for example colours) or as the stage for role play.
