Moomin Year 2 Class

Welcome to Year 2! What an exciting year we have ahead!

We will be learning about lots of exciting new topics this year including our first History topic is ‘The story of the high street.’ As historians we will be learning about Harpenden has changed over time. We will learn about how the shops have changed and what was it like to shop for food in the past. In Geography, we will be learning about Our Local Area. As geographers we learn about the human and physical features in Harpenden. In Spring term our second History topic is all about Walter Tull. As historians we will use artefacts and sources of information to find out about Walter Tull and learn how significant he was during WW2. Our second Geography topic is all about Australia. We will become super geographers as we will be learning about Australia's amazing places and people. Our last History topic in the Summer term will be 'changes in living memory,' where we will be learning about different inventions throughout history. I wonder what inventions we will create! To finish of the year, our Geography topic is all about Hong Kong. We will learn about what Hong Kong is like and what it is like to live there.

In addition to our topic learning, there will be a strong focus on Reading, Writing and Maths skills. We will also have weekly Art/DT, PSHE, RE, Computing and Music lessons too.

In Key Stage 1, we will be encouraging your child to become more independent.  Please make sure your child brings their pencil case, reading book/reading record and a bottle of water every day.  At the beginning of the day, the children have time to unpack their bag and change their own reading book if they need to.

We look forward to a year of fun and exciting learning with you.
